Q
:In what way is GRAPHILOR 3 a new generation of impregnated graphite ?
R : " GRAPHILOR 3 combines ultra-fine graphite with small discontinuous pores, with high performance resins that completely fill these pores. Three impregnations are possible, namely Bs (strongly cross-linked resin), C (resin treated at high temperature) and TH (PTFE resin). The result is very long-term stability in its resistance to corrosion, high temperatures and mechanical forces."

Q
: Why is GRAPHILOR 3 better than all other impregnated graphites ?
R : " Its composition (ultra-fine graphite impregnated by high performance resins) combined with well tested impregnation technologies gives very good stability demonstrated by its resistance to corrosion and high temperatures, without causing any change to its impermeability and mechanical properties, in the long term. GRAPHILOR 3 is the only impregnated graphite approved by the TUV with the same mechanical properties at ambient temperature and at maximum continuous working temperature; this is true for GRAPHILOR 3XBS up to 200°C, GRAPHILOR 3XC up to 430°C and GRAPHILOR 3 XTH up to 230°C". Q : Are there any impregnated graphites and equipment that can be used in fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals units subject to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)?
R : " Yes, CARBONE LORRAINE is the only company authorized to provide a certificate confirming that GRAPHILOR 3 XBS K and GRAPHILOR 3 XTH K do not release any molecules or solids. This is due to the excellent stability of these materials. Furthermore, exchangers without joints are offered in order to avoid service fluid from passing through to the process. These are cubic units in the NK or CB range"

Q
: Why is CARBONE LORRAINE the leader in evaporators for phosphoric concentration?
R :" These units operate under particularly severe operating conditions with hot fluids near boiling point and have a high content of gypsum, and are therefore very abrasive. Furthermore, their thermal performances must be relatively stable in the long term, particularly, without any irreversible dirt accumulation occurring.
CARBONE LORRAINE can offer units capable of operating at high fluid velocities despite the abrasiveness of these fluids, thus avoiding dirt accumulation, with the dimensions necessary for the size of the unit, either using PYT tubular exchangers or POLYBLOC exchangers. These are units made with GRAPHILOR 3 BSR or GRAPHILOR 3 XBSR. GRAPHILOR 3 BSMLR or GRAPHILOR 3 XBSMLR units are used for sizes with a diameter larger than 900 mm. These GRAPHILORs are reinforced by RIGILOR carbon fibers "

Other questions
Q : Is any equipment certified by the FDA?
R : " No, the FDA only monitors the integrity of products manufactured in a production unit. This unit is then subjected to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) approval. In order to obtain this approval, the operator must supply documents demonstrating the integrity of the unit and the fact that no possible drift can occur on the quality of the manufactured product due to the operating process, or to the inspection or maintenance process, etc.
The operator will be more or less demanding for the equipment depending on the production step in which the equipment is to be used. Conventional chemical equipment can be used in preliminary steps (for example POLYBLOC exchangers made of GRAPHILOR 3 K). GRAPHILOR 3 K single block exchangers will be used in preference in the next steps to provide a protection against the accidental transfer of service fluid into the process (for example exchanger in the NK range). Later on, GRAPHILOR 3 K type CB single block exchangers with glass covers and without any "dead" areas will be used, particularly if there are any cleaning problems. Finally, TANTALUM or HEXOLOY silicon carbide units are necessary for the final steps in the product fabrication process.
Obviously, the materials used must be inert, in other words they must not release any molecules or particles into the fabricated product. This is the case for GRAPHILOR 3 K, PTFE, TANTALUM and HEXOLOY silicon carbide used by CARBONE LORRAINE."
